Short biography of member:
Brenda R. Kwak is full professor affiliated to the Department of Pathology and Immunology at the Medical Faculty of the University of Geneva, Switzerland. After her medical studies, she has joined the gap junction/connexin research field in 1988 and has not left it since. She holds PhD degree (University of Amsterdam - the Netherlands) and registration in physiology (S.M.B.W.O. - the Netherlands). Her research group at the University of Geneva, which was established with the help of a Swiss National Science Foundation professorship (2003-2009), focuses on the role of connexins and pannexins in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease, such as atherosclerosis, restenosis, ischemia/reperfusion injury and thrombosis. She is author of over a 110 publications in well-recognized international peer-reviewed journals, including Nature Medicine, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Journal of Experimental Medicine, Circulation and European Heart Journal. She is associate editor of European Journal of Clinical Investigation and of Cell Communication and Adhesion. As one of the secondary proposers, she is a Management Committee (MC) member of this COST Action “Realising the therapeutic potential of novel cardioprotective therapies”.
